The origin of the Piping Plover we saw and photographed at The Conneaut Sandspit in Ashtabula County, on Saturday April 28, 2012 has been determined. Alice Van Zoeren, of the Great Lakes Piping Plover Banding Program, ([log in to unmask]), responded to my color band sighting data submittal. The male Piping Plover was hatched in 2009 at Grand Marais, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula and returned to Vermillion, Michigan which is west of Whitefish Point, on Lake Superior, last summer (2011), to breed. Hopefully he has already successfully returned to this location for another season. He will be three years old. There is no winter sighting record for this plover, but he most likely spent the winter on the gulf coast or the panhandle of Florida.
