We decided to pay a visit to The Conneaut Sandspit Area in Ashtabula County today from about noon to 1:30PM. To anyone searching for birds in The Western Basin of Lake Erie around Magee Marsh today, be thankful for the different species you have there, three hours plus to the east, it is pretty much lacking a variety of birdlife. We were the only people on The Sandspit, and still there was very few out of the ordinary birds. Highlights were an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, two Bank Swallows, and two Bonaparte's Gulls. The only shorebird other than three Killdeer was a single Greater Yellowlegs. The only other bird species of interest were four Great Black-backed Gulls, an Osprey, and a Green Heron. Something totally unusual was that there were no Double-crested Cormorants nor no Bald Eagles. Of the many times over the years that we have been to The Sandspit, this would definitely be the least amount of species we have ever encountered.
