I'm looking at the dark manteled gull in Conneaut. Very white head, the
size of a Herring Gull, not as dark as GBBG, pink legs, and when it flew,
fine white spots in the primaries. Could this be what Sibley calls the
"string of pearls" on a Slaty-backed Gull?

I am no gull expert, but this seems to be the only thing that fits.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, this bird is very interesting and
deserves more scrutiny by gull experts.
