Birding various spots along Kendall Park Road in the CVNP from our home down to the valley floor and including the Kendall Lake Trail and a bit of the Valley Bridle Trail resulted in 60 species this morning, with 7 warbler species and 3 vireo species.

Not only had 6 Pileated Woodpeckers but the highlight was the pair of Pileateds who were raucously gathering food and repeatedly flying to their nest to feed their young high in a dead hardwood along the Valley Bridle Trail. There were at least two nestlings, each comically vying for position to stick its head out of the nest hole the first and farthest whenever an adult arrived.

Also birded the first 3/4 mile of the Wetmore Trail across road from parking lot. Highlights here were the 4 Blue-winged Warblers, the 3 Black-billed Cuckoos and the single Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

But I was struck yet again today at the complete absence of Ovenbirds in areas of the CVNP where they were traditionally present.

Complete lists for Kendall Park Road area and then for Wetmore follow.
