I toured the Zaleski State Forest near Lake Hop State Park in Vinton County.
As previously reported by Bruce Simpson, the area is alive with warblers
and much more.
Highlights included:
Warblers
Blue-winged
Yellow
Yellow-throated
Pine
Cerulean
Black & white
Am. redstart
Prairie
Common Yellow throat
Worm-eating
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush
Kentucky
Hooded
Yellow-breasted Chat
Scarlet Tanagers
Yellow-throated Vireos
White-eyed Vireos
A special treat was a great view of a Ruffed Grouse on Kings Hollow Rd.
The bird was in the middle of the road and allowed me to drive up within
20'.
On the way home I stopped off at Tri-Valley Wildlife Area.
Birds of note included YB Chats, W-E Vireos , Grasshopper and Henslow's
Sparrows, and Prairie Warblers.
See you on the trails,
Chris Pierce
