Hi all,

I haven't seen anything posted recently on the University Heights (Cleveland) Fish Crows so I thought I'd send out a positive report. Thanks to Jen Brumfield for providing directions live via phone, I rolled up to the spot this evening (see previous posts) and immediately had several Fish Crows vocalizing, sitting on roofs and hanging out in the large oak tree where the nest(s) are. At least one American Crow was in the vicinity as well so don't expect to just look at a crow and tick Fish Crow off - spend some time and study them and their behavior. I also want to mention, which I'm pretty sure was mentioned before, these crows are part of the New York population that have been expanding westward into Pennsylvania and Ohio. They are known to give a single call note, not the typical 'uh-oh' you hear in other regions of the US such as Florida. This threw me off at first as I was sitting there listening to these crows vocalize. When the American Crow in the distance vocalized, immediately the difference was evident. I did hear one give the 'uh-oh' call at one point though.

Anyways, please use respect if you decide to look for these crows. As Jim McCormac mentioned before, this neighborhood most likely haven't experienced 'birders' so be courteous, don't enter properties, and use common sense. I actually just sat in my car with the window down and viewed from there.

Good birding,
