I checked over the marina docks and the Maxtown docks between 3:30 and 5:00 yesterday afternoon and didn't find anything other than the squads of Ring-bills and Herring already noted, plus a few Bonapartes at Maxtown. There were lots of gulls flying around, though, so the bird could still be around. The large #s of Herring Gulls is a relatively new phenomenon at Hoover. Up until a few years ago, we didn't get Herring in these numbers here, even in winter. Nor did we get the unusual stray larids that have shown up in the last few years - kittiwake, Lesser & Greater Black-backed, and now California. Something has changed about the biology of Hoover in the last few years to attract this wider suite of gulls.
