I visited these two forest parks yesterday morning along the Olentangy River in north Columbus looking for the last migrants and found little. Most of our obvious migrants have moved on, but some interesting stragglers and residents were left. Included among the highlights were:

Red-shouldered Hawk - still uncommon around here, a calling bird at Antrum Lake was unusual.
Great Horned Owl - a juvenile was begging in a ravine along the Dripping Rock Trail in Highbanks
Pileated Woodpeckers - 1 was calling at Antrum, and a pair was drumming and calling near the Highbanks Nature Center
Red-headed Woodpecker - an adult bird was calling from cottonwood snags in Rush Run Park across the river from Antrum Lake
Yellow-belled Flycatcher - a last migrant (and it's often this species) near the bottom of the Dripping Rock Trail at Highbanks
Acadian Flycatchers - 20 in an hour at Highbanks is a good Number for this resident. The cool ravines there seem perfect habitat.
Warbling Vireos - good #s, with 5 at Antrum Lake and 3-4 along the river at Highbanks
Hooded Warblers - 4 singing birds along the Dripping Rock Trail was great, with almost all of them around the shrubby openings created by the gypsy moth infestation several years ago
Louisiana Waterthrushes - at least 2 were singing on territories along the deep ravine west of the Nature Center at Highbanks
Tanagers - both Scarlet (2), and Summer (2) were along the Dripping Rock Trail at Highbanks, in the southwest part of the loop
