After reading Dave Slager's report of a Blue Grosbeak at Berliner Park on
5/27, I went down there this morning (5/28) and found 5 other birders
looking for the same bird, which we soon observed in the yellow sweetclover
field singing and perching on various shrubs for a good length of time.
Curiously there was a Warbling Vireo (confirmed visually) in a nearby tree,
and some of us commented on how similar Warbling Vireos and Blue Grosbeaks
sounded when singing. As we watched the Blue Grosbeak move around in the
field, we noted a second bird, probably another Blue Grosbeak, perhaps
a mate to the male we were observing, also moving around in the field near
the male.

I was happy to observe these birds- they were easy enough to see. You can
enter Berliner Park from Greenlawn Avenue and drive back to the far southern
part of the park, in the ball diamond #20-30 area. You'll see the large
field full of yellow sweetclover on your left; this is where we observed the
birds.

I've attached a picture to this post.

Good birding!
