We have several comments addressing the recent discussion on Ovenbird population changes.  Oak Hill trails in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) have always been good for Ovenbird and this year seemed to be even better.  During the OBBA2 Atlas, we covered the Buckeye Trail from Boston Mills Road north to Snowville Road in the CVNP and there were plenty of Ovenbirds in that area.

But I address your attention to an article (Population Dynamics over 60 years on 50 Acres of Brecksville Reservation) we wrote for the Cleveland Bird Calendar in February 2004 (Vol 100, Number 1, page 12), readily available on-line through the KirtlandBirdClub.org website (go to Archives).  We presented data from territory mapping from 1941 through 2002 for all birds on that 50 acres.  These data showed a somewhat constant decline in Ovenbird territories from 27 to zero over those 60 years, most of that steep decline starting around 1950.  Wood Thrush, American Redstart and Cerulean Warbler followed suit for extreme decline.  For whatever this is worth, ...
