While out back working in the vegetable garden this morning, I heard a call which really startled me.  It took a couple seconds for me to place the call; I haven't heard it in years, and even longer than that in Ohio.  The bird continued calling, and a smile came on my face...it was a n. bobwhite!  It was in the shrubby woods behind my back yard in Poland Twp., NE Mahoning Co.  This species (along with ruffed grouse) has virtually disappeared from NE Ohio in recent years.  Hopefully a comeback is on the way.  Some other birds heard and seen around my home the last couple days were wild turkey, great crested flycatcher, Carolina wren, Am. redstart, hooded warbler, rose-breasted grosbeaks (still coming to the feeders), and purple finch.  Craig H
