John Herman has reminded me that a photo of a California gull, taken by
Bob Royse, appeared on the cover of the Spring 2000 issue of the Ohio
Cardinal. This third-year bird was found on the beach at Caesar Creek SP
on 5/13/2000 and was seen through the 18th. *This* is the southernmost
Ohio record, and I am embarrassed, having been editor at the time, that
I forgot it, and evidently it occurred too late to make Peterjohn
(2001). There are May records for Kentucky and Mississippi, too.
