Exciting moment here a minute or two before 9:00 pm. I heard a distinct
fairly near call I thought was a Goatsucker of some kind. I live in a
pretty urban area in an apt with a small lot of wood right behind my little
apt patio. On the off chance I could see it, it was almost full dark, I got
up and stood in the doorway. I saw something fly and perch on the top of a
snapped off small dead tree - sillouhette definately Goatsucker. I got to
hear it call some more and then came in and listened to sounds on the
Cornell website. I've only heard a Whip poor will once and it was a very
buzzy fast sound so I checked Chucks-will-widow first and that's what I
think it was. I listened to the Whip poor will next and it was pretty
similar, nothing like what I heard in northern Michigan a few years
ago..don't know what's going on there. But still, even between the two I
think it was a Chucks-wills-widow. Very exciting for me.
But I hope its far away in the morning. Its not safe here during the day.

Mary, Fairborn/Dayton
