I biked the southern reaches of this sprawling MetroPark this morning, starting around the Borrow Pits near Williams Road and making the long circuit south and west to the Confluence area, the Groveport Blacklick bikepath, on to Winchester Lakes. Nothing very unusual, but a good list of over 60 species in 3 hours. Notables includes:

Bald Eagle - one of the nesting adults was stalking carp and ducklings on the Borrow Pits. Saw it carry off one of the fish, then shortly return to position itself in a tall cottonwood along the shore.

Red-tailed Hawk - an adult was feeding a squalling fledgling at Winchester Lakes

Shorebirds - lots of mud, but nothing but Kildeer (and lots of them)

Yellow-billed Cuckoo - one was hunting caterpillars at the Confluence area

Ruby-throated Hummers - not very conspicuous, with only a few the entire morning

Woodpeckers - all the expected ones, including a calling Pileated along Blacklick Creek

Flycatchers - lots of Acadian, Pewees, and Crested all the along the wooded patches on the trail. Willow Flycatchers were in the big field next to the old abandoned north end of Hendron Rd

Vireos - single White-eyed and yellow-throated were calling around the Borrow Pits, while Red-eyed and Warbling were more numerous and widespread. Warbling were feeding young at Winchester Lakes.

Thrushes - singing Wood Thrushes in lots of expected places (woods at Confluence) and unexpected places (tiny riparian patches along Groveport path and at Winchester Lakes)

Warblers - Yellow-throated, Parula, and Common Yellowthroat were widespread. A Prothonotary continues to sing in the swamp next to Turtle Pond in the Confluence area, while a Yellow-breasted Chat was in an overgrown field along the Groveport Blacklick Bikepath.

Buntings,Grosbeaks - Indigo Buntings were abundant & widepsread. A female Rose-br.Grosbeak was foraging at the Confluence area, while a pair was along the Groveport Blacklick bikepath.

Orioles - good day, with 7-8 Baltimores and 5 Orchards. Baltimores were in all the riparian woods, while Orchards were in overgrown fields at the Borrow Pits, north Hendron Rd, and Winchester Lakes (3!)
