We get a pretty good variety of "other-than" hummingbirds at our feeder in Avon Lake, especially during spring migration.
We just have the common "hour-glass" shaped hummingbird feeder with four "flowers", but we've modified it with part of a thin bamboo (plant stake) "extension perch" fastened across the bottom of two opposite hummingbird perches, but the key is to leave off the yellow "bug screens" that are supposed to be installed in the center of the flowers.
We don't put those on until the bees, yellow-jackets, and other bugs start becoming a bother. This allows the bigger-beaked birds access in the spring. We've photographed most of the visitors, including "flocks" of Oreoles, and our most suprising visitor, the Black-throated Blue Wabler.
