The two male Winter Wrens who have been singing on territory along the Ledges Trail for the past month or more were in fine form again this morning. One seems very reliable around the main ravine below Ice Box Cave. The second Winter Wren was a few ravines away and the two were counter-singing beautifully this morning.
Similarly, there seem to be two Dark-eyed Juncos singing along the Ledges Trail. One is dependable around the junction of the Ledges Trail with Haskell Run Trail. This bird favors a young, but dead maple tree right along the trail for its singing perch. This morning I had what I took to be a second bird up top on the south tip of the Overlook. Apparently both male and female Dark-eyed Juncos sing, whilst only male Winter Wrens sing. I have not yet seen any nest building or food carrying by either species.
Other highlights among the 23 species included 8 Acadian Flycatchers, 6 Hooded Warblers, 2 Ovenbirds, and a Black-throated Green Warbler.
