This morning, Saturday, I birded from 9AM to Noon. The temperature varied from 87 to 98 degrees during my visit. No rarities, but a nice variety. Shorebirds present on the vast mudflats were Short-billed Dowitcher, Least Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Greater Yellowlegs, and the largest number of Killdeer I have ever seen, estimated at 150+. Great Blue Herons were also numerous with a probable 80+. Cedar Waxwings were everywhere along the shoreline. Some of the other birds of interest were Caspian Terns, a Black-billed Cuckoo, and the nesting Cliff Swallows under the Greenbower Bridge, appearing to be staging for an upcoming departure. The Greenbower Osprey family; mom, dad, and the near adult size three kids; seemed to be enjoying themselves at the nest. If a Great Blue Heron entered the nest fly zone, one of the adults would go after the space invading Great Blue Heron.
