I got a note from Metro Parks folks that the small lot near the white
barn on the north side of the Battelle Darby wetlands is *off limits,*
as it's needed in case of any kind of emergency along the trail.
This means the closest legal parking is the lot at the corner of
Kuhlwein Rd. Walking north from there takes you through a lot of
productive habitat, and is definitely not a waste of time, fortunately.
If time is an issue, biking is an option, too.
Factoid on sedge wrens. I remember standing in a wet prairie in
Manitoba one early June day with innumerable sedge wrens dominating the
birdsong. In Ohio, they are a lot easier to find heading into August,
when it is thought these birds conduct a second nesting in a different
spot. See http://elibrary.unm.edu/sora/Wilson/v108n01/p0115-p0122.pdf
They should be listened for in good habitat elsewhere in the state this
time of year. They are perfectly happy singing at midnight, too...
