It was an interesting morning at "The Conneaut Sandspit", in between some very heavy rain downpours. Jeff Harvey, my wife Denise, and myself, arrived at about 6:45PM. The highlight of the morning visit, was a gorgeous Marbled Godwit, that mysteriously appeared at 9:10AM, we didn't see it come in. It was still present when we departed at 10:15AM. It was hanging out with a singe Common Tern and a single Forster's Tern, photos were taken. During the three and a half hour visit, Bob Krajeski was our only birding companion. Upon arriving at The Sandspit, we were greeted by 19 Bald Eagles, a new high count here, resting on the flats at the edge of the water. The 17 juveniles and 2 adults quickly dispersed to breakwall locations. Shorebird highlights of the visit were 4 Short-billed Dowitchers, 1 Stilt Sandpiper, 6 Sanderlings, 20+ Least Sandpipers, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 8 Killdeer. Numerous swallows, Bank, Barn, and Purple Martins were on the beach. Some other birds of interest were, a single Green Heron, 4 Caspian Terns, numerous Great Blues, 1 Cormorant, and a fly thru terrorizing Peregrine Falcon. The Conneaut Sandspit, rewarding as always!
