Greetings all -
I led a Local Patch Birding shorebird workshop today to Crane Creek estuary and Pipe Creek Wildlife Area. The estuary mudflats were fully exposed and offered simply incredible shorebirding with beyond ace looks at (3) Marbled Godwits, a Whimbrel, Wilson's Phalarope, a Red Knot, White-rumped Sandpiper, Short-billed and Long-billed Dowitchers side by side, Pectoral and Stilt Sandpipers, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, a handful of Black-bellied Plovers, a horde of Semipalmated Plovers, both yellowlegs and a slew of Common and Forster's Terns and Bonaparte's Gulls. Viewing is excellent with a scope. We set up shop at 8 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. we realized we had been studying and discussing shorebird ID intensely for three hours that simply flew by.
Pipe Creek Wildlife Area continues to be a gem with (2) Red-necked Phalaropes, single Western and White-rumped Sandpipers, a Red Knot, a handful of Stilt Sandpipers, both yellowlegs, Short-billed Dowitchers, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers, Wilson's Snipe.
While we did not make it to the Chaussee, there were (2) Red Knots and (2) Red-necked Phalaropes there today fide Gabe Leidy.
A simply stunning day in the field with *20 species of shorebirds*, and additional highlight of Little Blue Herons (5) at Pipe Creek.
best of birding - JB
