The dry conditions have once again created some excellent habitat for
shorebirds at the Zoar Lake & Wetlands in northern Tuscarawas County. This
shallow lake along the Tuscarawas River can be reached from 5th St. or from
the cemetery on 7th St. off of SR 212 in Zoar. Waders were in high numbers
including over 50 great blue herons and 10 great egrets. Killdeer also
numbered over 50 and the resident pair of bald eagles was there as usual.

Shorebirds included 9 pectoral, 12 solitary, 2 spotted & 8 least sandpipers,
50+ killdeer, & 2 lesser yellowlegs. Other notables included belted
kingfisher, green heron, 100+ cedar waxwings, Baltimore oriole, and a
singing white-eyed vireo.
