Greetings all - this evening i found and photographed a VERY POSSIBLE juvenile (hatch-year) Neotropical Cormorant at a small overflow impoundment (dirty wetland and mudflats) at the intersection of Crocker/Bassett Road and I-90, Cuyahoga County. Parking is in the rear of Monroe Brake and Tire on Crocker Road. Walk a few steps to view impoundment. This exceedingly dark brown juvenile cormorant shows no contrast in coloration of head/neck/breast as does typical Double-crested Cormorant. The bill and neck and body is slender overall and bill intermediate between the species. The lores are DARK brown/gray which in Double-crested are typically orange or yellow flesh. The gape is fairly well pointed (triangular). The tail appeared long to me. There is no orange flesh surrounding the eye.
I will post photos to http://www.northnw.wordpress.com this evening.
More soon -JB
