Let's go spy a kite!

The Ohio Ornithological Society invites everyone to the Third Annual Mississippi Kite day, this 
Saturday, August 11, in the Greater Cincinnati Area. This event is free and open to all birders, their 
families, and friends. 

As you may know, a trio of Mississippi Kites is being seen in the vicinity of Loveland, a suburb of 
Cincinnati on the northeast side, just outside of the I-275 loop. 

Our plan for the day is contingent on the kites being seen the day before: if the kites remain in the 
area on Friday, the field trip is on for Saturday morning!  If you are interested in joining OOS, and 
other birders from the Cincinnati area, on Saturday, please send an email with your name to Ned 
Keller  ([log in to unmask]). 

Ned will send out an email on Friday evening, confirming the status of the event the next day, with 
the meeting place and directions for the Third Annual Mississippi Kite Day field trip on Saturday. 
So, if you are interested in attending, please contact Ned in advance of Friday.

If the event is a "go", we'll enjoy the kites soaring overhead. After successfully viewing the kites, 
Ned and his wife Kathy McDonald will guide folks over to the Oxbow, on the west side of 
Cincinnati, in the Lawrenceburg, Indiana area, where a Neotropical Cormorant is being seen. NOTE: 
the Neotropical Cormorant is in Indiana on the Oxbow, Inc. property.

You may already know that Ned is a former OOS board member, the creator of Cincinnatibirds.com 
website, the owner of the Ohio Birds listserv, a member of the Ohio Birds Record Committee, and 
an all-around good guy and wonderful birder. Ned, and his wife Kathy McDonald, another 
amazingly accomplished person dedicated to conservation and birds, are working on recruiting 
several local Cincinnati area birders to help with Kite Day.  Please contact Ned and Kathy to 
volunteer to help if you'd like! 

The past two years, OOS hosted a Mississippi Kite Day, courtesy of the good folks at Hide-A-Way 
Hills, a private residential area, in the Hocking Hills area. About 100 people attended the event last 
year, and about 60 people in 2010: both prior events had limited space because of restricted 
access. This year, as stated above, we're hoping the kites in the Loveland, Ohio area, just outside 
of Cincinnati, will cooperate so unlimited numbers of folks can join in the fun.
