Bill Heck and I headed south to Loveland this morning in pursuit of seeing the MIKIs that have been reported. We arrived at Lever Park about 9:00 and Bill immediately got his sights on a bird perched in the dead tree at the end of the parking lot. We quickly got our bins on it and had an extremely brief view of it before it flew overhead and away. We were pretty sure that it was the immature MIKI, but we did some photo research after getting home and we both feel confident about our sighting. We also went to Symmes Park (AKA Park of the Brave) on nearby Lebanon Rd. We never saw any other kites beyond our brief 9:00 visual. We had so hoped to see all three at once in a tree or kiting overhead. (We get greedy, don't we?) This was not to be. We met a few other birders who were searching and maybe they had better luck after we left the area (about 11:30).

We also saw 1 mature Cooper's Hawk and one very tattered Red-shouldered Hawk at Lever Park. We saw no other raptors at Home of the Brave.

Good Birding,

Doreene Linzell
