Yesterday afternoon, Sunday, Aug 11, I checked out several places in Wayne
County for shorebirds. Stops included Funk Bottoms observation platform,
Wilderness Rd. ponds, and two areas in the Killbuck WA, Wright Marsh and
where Clark Rd. crosses the marsh. Best shorebird habitat was at Wilderness
Rd. ponds where there were 8-10 killdeer, 2 semipalm plovers, 1 lesser
yellowlegs, and 4-5 solitary sandpipers. Not a lot, given the excellent
habitat available. Wright Marsh was nearly dried up with no shorebird
habitat. Clark Rd. crossing had a lot of marsh activity with many GBH and
E. kingbirds. The only shorebirds seen were two solitary sandpipers and one
killdeer. Overall, it appears there are not a lot of shorebirds in the
Wayne Co. area right now. Randy Rowe
