Hello Partners,

This is my first time participating and I wonder how the group process works. How do students sign up for case study project topics?

Students will identify to you whether or not they will do a case study or a service learning project.

Will the topics be on the site and students can sign up directly on the site?

The topics are listed on the xl -sheet attached.  They will identify their first, second, and third choice.

You will place them into teams of from 3/4 from your school based upon choices.

(on the XL sheet attached you will list your school/ and their choices something like

SCHOOL X 1SL  

SCHOOL X 2CS 

SCHOOL X 3CS  

These are three student teams from School X, Team 1 has decided to do a service learning group project, and teams 2 and 3 have decided to do case studies.

Each team will then decide upon their first 3 topics, in order of preference and then I (or the Partner) will place these on the spread sheet.  I have done this for School X on the Spread sheet attached..

SCHOOL X 1sl  Indigenous rights/collective rights 1st choice, TOPICS Anti-Racism (2nd choice), Neoliberalism, post neoliberalism and human rights (3rd choice)
SCHOOL X 2cs Cultural Differences (1st Choice), Pandemics (2nd choice), Women's Rights (3rd Choice)
SCHOOL X 3cs  Global Protest (1st Choice), Trade and Development (2nd choice), Poverty 3CS (3rd Choice) 


Will students for the various topics form their own groups for chat on the NING site?


First, the Faculty Partners will pair up the groups, by seeing which groups match up based upon the completion of the Spreadsheet.  In most cases this will result in complete groups of between 6-8 team members.  With each group having teams from no more than 2 different schools.

Once these groups have been formed, we will alert our respective classes and then encourage them to contact their team members.  We will need to be able to provide emails to the respective team members once the groups have been formed.  

The student groups once formed will then set up a group site on NING, or we can do this for them.

I hope this is clear, if not..let us know what areas are unclear.  And don't hesitate to ask, we who have done this a couple of time know how daunting it can be the first time..
