The recent cold snaps seems to have moved around irruptive species as well as migrants.  I stopped by 2 small parks on the eastern edge of Gahanna this afternoon that have dry upland forest patches (Jefferson Township Park and Hannah Farms Park) and found 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers in each.  These are good #s at a very early date, and the cause seems to be a spectacular acorn crop.  Acorns are so thick in these 2 woods that I could hear them falling all around me (and was a bit fearful of being beaned by one).  Not surprisingly, both Red-bellied Wprs and Blue Jays were also common in both spots.  I didn't see any Turkeys, but imagine that they are at both sites as well.  It would be a good bet that these birds will be around the few other large stands of Oak-Hickory forest in NE Columbus as well; Blendon Woods & Sharon Woods, I'm talking to you.
