This afternoon, Friday, we visited "The Conneaut Sandspit'" on Lake Erie in Ashtabula County, from 1PM to 4PM. The temperature was 66 degrees with swirling winds, sand was blowing everywhere. Just us and some parasailers. We had nearly the same bird species as we saw last Saturday night. Noteworthy birds were 5 American Golden-plovers, a single Black-bellied Plover, 9 Semipalmated Plovers, 5 Least Sandpipers, 3 Pectoral Sandpipers, 4 Killdeer, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 6 Caspian Terns, a single adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, a single adult Great Black-backed Gull, 5 American Coots, 6 Green-winged Teal, a single juvenile Black Crowned Night-Heron, and Ring-billed and Herring Gulls galore. "The Sandspit" is as vast as we have ever seen it. Judging by the mudflats in "The Platform Lagoon Area", the water level of Lake Erie appears to be still dropping.
