I arrived at Villa Angela/Wildwood late today around 5:20pm til before 8pm. With all the birds seen earlier today nearby I had to make do with late day birding. It was rather dark as the front was moving in and it started to rain at 7:40pm. Was only able to find eight species of warblers, some missed high in the tree tops as it was too dark to find everything. Blackpolls, Magnolias and Wilsons most numerous.

Warblers: Magnolia 5, Black-throated Blue 1m, Black-throated Green 1, Blackpolls 6, Black-and-White 1, Am Redstart 2, Comm. Yellowthroat 2, and Wilsons 4.

I parked near Lakeshore Blvd and as I was returning south along the creek in Wildwood some late day regular park birder/walkers (anonymous) wanted me to check out or take a closer look at a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron on a log near the edge of the east side of Euclid Creek that seemed distressed. I was able to see with it with my binoculars so I said I would and they walked away. As I got closer (Night Herons don't let me get close)I realized it was an American Bittern. I watched it from 7:15 to 7:25pm and then went looking for them to show them the pictures. I was standing just north of the big wooded area on the west side of the creek which is down from the Lakeshore parking lot. It was soon very dark and started to rain as I left. We observed at least four Black-crowned Night-Herons fly in from the west and fly east over the bridge over the creek. This is more than the usual two that have been seen recently. Too dark to see the colors but
lately an adult and juvenile have been seen north of the bridge hidden in the trees west side of creek.

There were a good number of warblers moving along the trees/shrubs/goldenrod on the east side of the entrance road to Wildwood today. It is a shame that the people that maintain the Cleveland Lakefront State Parks (ODNR) are on a cleanup campaign to rid all the undergrowth along this area including goldenrod which has been full of birds lately. They have already removed the undergrowth just north of the Lakeshore parking lot and at the further north end. I have been told they will take all of it out leaving only the trees so then they can just run the mower through it. They are concerned about invasive species, security in an urban park and things looking neat apparently. This area is good during migration for Orange-crowned Warblers, Grosbeaks, Common Yellowthroats, Nashville Warblers, Kinglets, flycatchers, Winter Wrens, House Wrens, various sparrows and many other birds and wildlife that hide in it and it is so close to Euclid Creek. They have
removed a lot of milkweed/growth along the beach area too in Villa Angela which I guess they consider invasive or maybe a security issue or overgrown looking. Not sure what the thinking is there. This has nothing to do with the stream and wetland restoration project in Wildwood right now as it is a different group of people. That project should be good for birds and birdwatchers.
