I had a close-up and personal Ruby-throated Hummingbird experience this afternoon while doing fall cleanup in the flower bed under the kitchen window. I watched the bird sipping nectar from the nearby Butterfly Bush which is now void of flowers except 3 clusters. Evidently it didn't get sufficient nectar because it hovered very close to my face as though to say, "Okay lady, what did you do with the Butterfly Bush flowers?" The hummer finally decided the nectar feeder would be a satisfactory alternative. It was such a surprise experience that I neglected to determine if the hummer was male, female, or a youngster!!!
