I spent several hours this morning birding around parks and lakes along the Scioto River west of downtown Columbus, stretching roughly from the Olentangy confluence to Griggs dam with stops at Long St. dam, Marble Cliff, Griggs dam, Shrum Mound Quarry, and Sullivant Trace greenbelt.  None of these areas sports a large block of forest, and, in contrast to yesterday, there weren't any large migrant flocks today, but there were a steady succession of individual migrants at several locations.  Notables included:

Cormorants - small flocks at Watermark Lake and above Griggs dam
Turkey Vultures - 33+ were roosting on the radio tower and in the trees near Griggs dam
Cooper's Hawk - 1 was winging over the Confluence Park area
Sapsuckers - only found 4, but they were all in the small woods along the Sullivant Trace bikepath
Flycatchers - Phoebes widespread; single Wood Pewees were at Marble Cliff and Griggs
Vireos - little other than a few Red-eyed
Red-br.Nuthatches - singles were at Long St. dam, Marble Cliff, and Holton Park at the west end of the Sullivant Trace
Kinglets - all Golden-crowned, and they were scattered everywhere, even in small bushes along the river downtown
Thrushes - a few Swainson's were lurking at Marble Cliff, Griggs, and along Sullivant Trace
Mimids - a few Catbirds were at every stop, while lingering Brown Thrashers were at Long St. Dam and Sullivant Trace
Cedar Waxwings - small flocks at nearly every stop; the honeysuckle berry crop hereabouts looks fairly good.
Warblers - Black-throated Greens abundant, with 17/3 hours.  Also had Yellow-rumps (6), Cape Mays (3), Parulas (2), Tennessees (2), Magnolia, Black-thr.Blue (female at Marble Cliff), Balckpoll, Com.Yellowthroat.
Buntings,Grosbeaks - 2 Indigo Buntings in the old flood-control marsh along Sullivant Trace
Sparrows - Song Sparrows abundant and Chipping common. Small flocks of Whote-crowns at Marble Cliff and Sullivant Trace, and 1 Swamp Sparrow was in the Sullivant Trace marsh.
Blackbirds - a few Redwings at Griggs and Sullivant Trace marsh, while Sullivant Trace had a flock of 30 grackles.
