I was at Villa Angela/Wildwood in Cleveland today, Oct. 6th from 11:15 to 1:45p. Lots of Golden-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers and White-throated Sparrows. Strong west winds and it got colder in the afternoon. Here is some of what I found:
Black-crowned Night-Heron 1 adult
Black-capped Chickadees ~ 10
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Brown Creeper 4
Winter Wren 2
Golden-crowned Kinglets - very numerous
Ruby-crowned Kinglets ~ 12 (more seen today)
Hermit Thrush 1
Warblers: Magnolia 2, Black-throated Blue 1, Yellow-rumped 40+, Black-throated Green 1, PINE 1, Palm 2, Blackpoll 1, Wilson's 1
White-throated Sparrows - very numerous
(The Pine I found in the trees along the entrance road north of Lakeshore parking lot) Thanks to John Pogacnik who said to look closely at Blackpoll warblers.
THURSDAY, Oct 4th was here from 5:15pm to 7:15pm. Lately haven't seen much late in the day but Thursday was different (before weather change). Found few warblers near the lake in the trees that still had sun in them but when I went to walk back to car after 6:30pm 150-200 ft south of bridge where the road curves warblers were in all the trees each side of road (near crosswalk)very active, flying from tree to tree and across the road. I left when they were still there. They weren't active when I arrived there around 5:15pm. Here is some of what I saw:
Pied-billed Grebe 1 (Euclid Creek in Wildwood south of construction area)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1
Golden-crowned Kinglets ~12
Red-breasted Nuthatch 4
Brown Creepers 4
Warblers: Nashville 7, Magnolia 2, Cape May 1, Yellow-rumped 6, Black-throated Green 2, Palm 2, Blackpoll 2, American Redstart 2
Dark-eyed Juncos 2
White-throated Sparrows 25+
White-crowned 2
Also, the Coyotes are very reliable now in Villa Angela. Many people seem to see them. Friday evening I was trying to imitate a noise an expert birder uses that sounds like an animal in distress and a coyote came out of the thickets to check me out then ran off. I didn't attract any birds. As I previously mentioned they have lost their habitat on the island with the construction in Wildwood.
