I had to go out in the nasty weather for groceries today 10/30 at 5pm
so I made a quick tour of Hoover Res. The southern end was absolutly
devoid of birds. I figured they were in the coves out of the weather. I
did spot a small raft of mallards near the Walnut Rd. boat ramp. The 20 or
so mallards were really bunched together. I finaly found some birds at the
Oxbow causway. There were 50 to 60 hooded mergansers mostly on the north
side with a few on the south side. There were two mute swans with their
conspicuous yellow bills on the south side along with five great blue
herons. There was one lone pied billed grebe. There were also a number of
gulls flying out over the lake but were to far away to ID in the rain with
just my bino's.
Hoover Res. is located north east of Columbus in Franklin and Delaware
counties.
