Having put up my nyger tube feeders only yesterday, and seeing 8 pine siskins already this morning, I went out to Dawes Arboretum, where they keep the feeders full all year round. Here are the birds I saw:

red-bellied woodpecker
blue jay
Carolina chickadee
tufted titmouse
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
white-breasted nuthatch
white-crowned sparrow
dark-eyed junco
northern cardinal
PURPLE FINCH (“dipped in grape juice” look; stripes on flanks purple, not brown.)
house finch
pine siskins (total of 23!)
American goldfinch

The purple finch was a new LC year bird for me – making 197 on my “Big County Year” list.

I did Project Feeder Watch at Dawes last winter, and I never saw the species in caps above on my watch.
