At about 1PM this afternoon we stopped by Evans Lake in southeastern Mahoning County. In the rain it was a waterfowl bonanza. The biggest highlight was a group of 29 Tundra Swans. The following are the most interesting waterfowl seen with their approximate numbers, 550 Ruddy Ducks, 350 Northern Shovelers, 650 American Coots, 200 American Wigeon, 150 Gadwall, 65 Buffleheads, 150 Green-winged Teal, 10 Ring-necked Ducks, 8 American Black Ducks, 4 male Canvasbacks, 65 Pied-billed Grebes, 10 Horned Grebes, and 4 Common Loons. Best viewing is from the end of Calla Road on the northwest end of the Lake off of SR164.
