At about 2PM, we checked out Pine Lake, which is located to the south of the previous mentioned Evans Lake. Some of the waterfowl numbers at this location were unbelievably higher than at Evans Lake. Our number one highlight at this site, were no less than 68 Common Mergansers, which were either females or this years kids. They were all at the north end of the lake. Little Beaver Creek in Columbiana County is just a short distance to the south. There were at least seven successful new family groups this past summer. Could this be a gathering of this years offspring? The following are some of the other highlights we recorded, along with the amazing numbers. Our number two highlight was 280+ Buffleheads. Here are some more, 70+ Hooded Mergansers, 30+ Red-breasted Mergansers, 1000+ Ruddy Ducks, 80+ Pied-billed Grebes, 5 Common Loons, 400+ Northern Shovelers, 300+ American Wigeons, 150+ Double-crested Cormorants, and interestingly 30+ Dunlins. Best viewing is accessed off of SR7 on the west side of the lake.
