Yesterday afternoon I stopped by the Huntington Beach reservation on Lake Erie. There were a lot of warblers in the sycamores and oaks at the top of the beach.
I believe most of them were blackpolls in their fall drabs. They had faint stripes on the flanks, kind of pale yellow wash on the top side and two very thin faint wing bars.
In the shadows they looked as brown as female house finches but in the sun the yellow showed.
