Greetings... There was a Nelson's Sparrow at Gilmore Ponds Saturday
morning. The sparrow was in the West Pond/Cattail Marsh area. There
weren't a whole lot of sparrows in the area, though. In about 45
minutes of wandering around West Pond there were 12+ each Swamp and
Song, 1 Lincoln's, and the Nelson's Sparrow.

There's quite a bit of nice habitat at Gilmore Ponds this year, as is
the case most years. Lots of smartweed and sedges, smaller amounts of
Barnyard Grass, and less Cocklebur and Beggar's Ticks to collect than
other years. And a little water, too. The plant composition comes and
goes, and I guess conditions favor smartweed this year.

Take care,
