A reminder that the world's most sedentary birding event is coming up this
weekend: The Big Sit. Birders all over the world will be sitting on either
Saturday Oct 13 or Sunday Oct 14 (the traditional/official Big Sit date) and
counting every bird they see. Ohio already has 10 Sit circles registered,
but it's not too late to create your own Big Sit circle. This free event is
non-competitive and really fun—like a tailgate party for birders. Some
organizations use The Big Sit to raise funds and awareness for conservation
causes. Many NWRs use the Sit as a good opportunity for public outreach. To
find out more about The Big Sit, visit
http://www.birdwatchersdigest.com/bigsit. You can also follow many Sit
circles on Twitter, using the hashtag #bigsit. Good luck to all Sitters! May
the birding be so good that you actually have to stand up!
