I spent the windy morning walking through these 2 downtown Columbus parks looking for migrating waterbirds and landbirds. There were plenty of wind-shielded areas, both on the river and along the bikepath, but the open grasslands and marshes were very wind-blown. Notables in 3 hours included:

Waterfowl - 2 Green-winged Teal in the wetlands at Scioto were the only unusual ducks

Other waterbirds - at least 75 cormorants were above the dam, along with 2 Pied-billed Grebes

Great Egrets - still 14 hunting in the bay above the Greenlawn dam

Gulls - nothing unusual, other than a few Herring with the Ring-billed throng here

Flycatcher, swallows - 1 Phoebe in the meadow near the Grange Center, but no swallows

Brown Creepers - 2 along the path at Scioto, another 2 at Berliner

Kinglets - 1 Ruby-crowned at Scioto, 5 Golden-crowned along the bikepath at Berliner

Thrushes - large flocks of Robins (80+) were in the riparian woods along the Berliner bikepath, but no other migrant thrushes were located

Mimids - a singing Mockingbird and a group of 5 Catbirds were at Scioto

Warblers - Yellow-rumpeds were widespread, with 60+ for the morning. Scioto also had 6 Palm Warblers (mostly in the fields north of the Grange Center), a Nashville, and a Common Yellowthroat

Sparrows - widespread Songs and White-throated sparrows. Also had a flock of 25 Chipping along the Berliner path where it reaches the fields, and a Lincolns at the Scioto boat launch

Blackbirds - not much other than a handful of Redwings

Finches - flocks of Goldfinches near the Grange feeders (20+) and at the south end of the Berliner bikepath (35+), but little else
