I, too, ventured out on the lovely Turkey Day to explore Hoover Res for the first time since moving here in July. I gather that the water levels aren't always this low this time of year?
I dipped on the Red-necked Loon but did get the Horned Grebe. Lots of Bonaparte's Gulls (& Ring-billed) but little else. A few distant Hooded Mergs & Ruddies.
A stop at Blendon Woods was also v quiet with the most action at the Nature Ctr's feeders. No luck w/the Com Redpoll but an obliging Red-breasted Nuthatch came to the suet. A brilliantly blue E Bluebird induged in a bath.
Beautiful day to be out, just pretty quiet bird-wise.
In case any one in the butterfly world keeps track, I had a Great Spangled Frittilary at Clear Crk MetroPark on Monday.
If anyone knows of any roosting Saw-whet Owls, particularly in Clear Crk MP, pls reply off-list. I haven't seen one for yrs. Thanks!
