As Sally brought up earlier, the Kirtland Bird Club had a field trip to the
Lake Metroparks' Lake Erie Bluffs Park this morning. Highlight was
definitely the 650 common redpolls that flew to the east in flocks of 350,
150, and 150. Waterfowl numbers were low with only bufflehead, ruddy duck
and all three mergansers. Lots of grebes on the lake and a few loons. The
only gull of note was a lesser black-backed gull. No luck with cave
swallows. We tried.

I watched my feeders and the lake this afternoon from my yard. I had 6
common redpolls and a flock of 34 white-winged crossbills in my Douglas fir
trees. They didn't stay long. On the lake I had a young laughing gull.
There were a ton of gulls milling around on the lake and the laughing was
with them. The rest of the gulls were divided between Bonaparte's and
ring-billed. I had a lot of common loons and horned grebes also. Nothing
else of note.
