If you have not watched the Rough-legged Hawks out in Geauga County I
encourage you to do so this Fall/Winter. These pictures are not very good
(taken at great distances and manipulated on the computer) but you can get
an idea of what to expect. The Rough-legged Hawks flutter in one spot,
waaaay up there, then dive bomb to the field to get their prey. There are
light phase and dark phase individuals to enjoy.

You will also see some Red-tailed Hawks working the fields as well as
Eagles, Kestrel's and Gulls! Your 8 x 42 binoculars are sufficient but a
spotting scope will enhance your enjoyment. You can also find Horned Larks
in the fields from time-to-time.

Again, this location is east of Middlefield, OH. Take Rt 87 east to Hayes
Road then go north. You can see some raptors before you get to Nauvoo Road,
but the hot spot is north of Nauvoo Road. Drive about 50 - 100 yards past
the Amish school house and stop with your safety flashers on. Be careful of
the ditch! Traffic is light and you will see more buggies than cars. Watch
the fields on both sides of the road.
