A quick stop at this Groveport MetroPark (south of Columbus) found few birds, but some goodies, including a fly-by White-winged Crossbill and a calling Red-br.Nuthatch, both in the scattered spruce trees that make up much of the 'Tall Pines' area of the park. (This area does, in fact, have a large pine grove that I didn't visit today.) The spruce trees here are heavy with ripe cones, so the place could be a magnet for crossbills over the course of the remainder of fall and winter. It could also be a great spot for Saw-whet Owls, but finding their roosts is another matter. Little else of note was around in the area other than some Tree Sparrows and Golden-cr.Kinglets.
