Greetings -

The female King Eider was seen by over 100 folks today between birders onshore at Cliff Drive, immediately west of upper Edgewater State Park, birders scanning from the Pier W restaurant overlook in Lakewood, and a bunch of thrilled birders on the BSBO boat trip, which had excellent and prolonged views of this bird offshore.

From where the bird was originally found yesterday morning, early a.m., immediatelu north of Cliff Drive, it is now staging to the NW off of Lakewood.

Views from Cliff Drive and Perkins Beach (Edgewater State Park) were distant and far to the west today while birders scanning due north from the Pier W restaurant patio overlook in Lakewood were treated to great scope looks this afternoon.

Note, you will need a scope. There are many scoters (all three species), hundreds of mergansers, many Bufflehead, Scaup, staging off the Lakewood/Edgewater coastline.

Your best bet would be to start early in the a.m. at Cliff Drive. DO NOT PARK ON CLIFF DRIVE IT IS ILLEGAL and police are present. Park just down the short small hill at the Perkins overlook parking lot at Edgewater State Park and walk up the hill paralleling Cliff Drive, walking west. From this bluff, you have a spectacular view. Spend time scoping the many rafts of waterfowl.

If you do not locate the eider, head immediately west to Pier W restaurant off of Lake Road in Lakewood. This restaurant is located in-between two enormous apartment complexes called the Gold Coast. There is a sign for "Winton Place" visible from Lake Road. Turn into this complex and veer right. Smack dab in-between is a low-profile and fantastic restaurant lying along the shore. There is a large cement slab patio on the right side of the restaurant that offers superior views of the lake. From here, the King Eider was viewed well by MANY through this afternoon (Saturday).
