I finally made a trip out to Hayes Road, tempted by the Rough Legged Hawks regularly
reported there by Matt Valencic.

After hanging around for an hour or so, they appeared, at least three rough legged hawks.
Also a northern harrier hunting low over the fields, a kestrel, and coopers, 4-5 red
tailed hawks (one of a pair carrying around twigs already) and finally a bald eagle.
That's a pretty good day for raptors.

And, a bonus, flushed from the fields, flocks of horned larks that resettled so I was able
to get a good look at them. Also, I think a longspur group, but they never landed and
I'm not sure about the id. A reason to go back.

A really nice spot, on a quiet little road, where you can park in the street and not be in
anyone's way.

Inga Schmidt
