I went to Mentor Lagoons (Lake County) this afternoon to see if the Common Redpolls reported by Jerry Talkington on 11/18 might still be present. They were! Approximately 100 of them were in the black alders along the lake front trail. At one point, 60 of them landed on the gravel path to feed on fallen alder seed cones while easily 40 more remained in the trees. Listen for waves of chattering finchy call notes and then look both high and low. They can be at multiple levels, including on the ground under the trees going down the bluff.
