Ryan Golterman and I did some birding in Lake and Geauga Counties today.  The strong winds along the lakefront hampered our efforts in Lake Co.  At Headlands SP and Fairport Harbor we didn't find anything noteworthy; there was a decent mix of diving ducks and lots of Bonaparte's gulls there.  We tried Mentor Lagoons next; a flyover flock of 40 tundra swans was the only thing of note.  We tried for redpolls without success on the Lake Front Trail there.  On the way home we stopped at LaDue Reservoir, there was a good number of fowl present.  Heavy snow squalls made viewing quite difficult there, but we were able to see the following: snow goose (blue morph) with Canada geese, 50 ring-necked ducks, a nice total of 45 buffleheads, 350+ ruddy ducks, common loons, pied-billed grebes, and 75 Am. coots.  We didn't see the western grebe, but visibility was poor so it may or may not still be there.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
