I found a Red-necked Grebe close to shore on Harsha Lake at East Fork SP (Clermont) this morning (11-25-12), near to shore. It was smaller than the Common Loons which were present, but larger than a Horned Grebe would be. It was dark gray on top, lighter gray to whitish on the flanks and the breast/neck area. It had a long, thin neck, a dark eye, a white cheek, and a semblance of a dark cap. The bill was what really drew my attention - it was heavy and dagger-like, like a loon, not fine pointed like a Horned Grebe, and it was yellow at the base, darker at the tip.
