Greetings - another batch of Cave Swallows is starting to appear in the Great Lakes with multiple birds found today in Indiana, New York, and Ontario. Strong southerly winds with this warm front this weekend is creating what is probably the best and last of the year ideal conditions for finding these rarities. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will see south winds at 10-20 mph and temps in the low 60s. This is perfect weather for a Cave Swallow invasion (already happening). Other species to look for with this type of weather during Rarity Month November: Ash-throated and Vermilion Flycatchers, Say's Phoebe, Cattle Egret, Franklins Gulls, among others. The best spots to watch for Cave swallows are anywhere on the LAKEFRONT as they will move east and west along the shoreline, sometimes roosting under bridges, marina boat houses, and even on jetties. Also, large inland reservoirs such as Hoover and Findlay.
